Flamenco emerged in the late 18th century in Andalusia, in southern Spain, as a particular form of singing - cante flamenco.
It was also a way of life, a subculture, that derived its inspiration from the act of living and survival.
But Andalusia was also the place where dancers have enchanted audiences for generations.
Add in the guitarist, with his virtuoso abilities to bring to Flamenco sharply contrasting lyricism and percussive rhythms, and we have a deeply complex art form that is without parallel.
